| | A new family from the Rhone region for PFV,
| | With the sale of the Paul Jaboulet Aîné company, Primum Familiae Vini announces with great sadness the loss of one of its earliest members.
The Jaboulet company had been owned by the Jaboulet family since its founding in 1834, but issues with France's heavy inheritance taxes prompted the sale of the company. Although during the final discussions within the family, some PFV "member friends" had offered their assistance to help one branch of the Jaboulet family to maintain family control, it has now been announced that the northern Rhone producer has been purchased in its entirety by Compagnie Financière FREY, including vineyards and current inventory.
We shall remember forever with great emotion one of the most moving moments of Primum Familiae Vini: the amazing reception by the whole Jaboulet family at Tain l'Hermitage, led by Gérard in July 1997, just a few days before his tragic death. We wish all the members of the Jaboulet family much success and happiness in their new life.
This example demonstrates more than ever the need for family producers to unite in order to defend the common values which are the heart and soul of traditional family companies.
Therefore, Primum Familiae Vini is happy to announce that they have invited the Perrin family, owners of southern Rhone's Château de Beaucastel since 1909 and run today by the 4th and 5th generations to join the association.
Château de Beaucastel produces about 20,000 cases a year of red and white wines which have helped attract global attention to the historic Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
The Perrin family also owns Perrin & Fils, a company that produces wines from the best terroirs of the southern Rhône Valley (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Vinsobres...)
One of Perrin & Fils' aims is to prove to the world that the Southern Rhône is a complex mosaic of distinctive terroirs, not just one vast vineyard producing uniform Côtes du Rhone reds.
